Woolly Shows 2016

The new season of shows beckons and as ever we going to all your favourite fibre shows. We’ve had a busy winter perfecting the new wool picker and further developing our Classic Carder in different forms. We’ll be at WonderWool, WoolFest and Fibre-East, we’re also going to do something very different …

Maryland

After the excitement of WonderWool, we’re departing for Foreign Climes. In particular, we’re going to see all our American friends and customers. It’s taken some head scratching and frankly, stupendous logistics work to ensure that we, our demonstration drum carders and the new picker, make it to the States. Which is just as well, given how excited we are to be going.
The Maryland Sheep and Wool Show is one of the most important fibre shows in the USA and will be our first chance to exhibit to new customers and show old friends new tricks and tips for using all carders in the States.

The End of the Year – reflections and thoughts

newyear

We hope Father Christmas was kind to you and brought all things you’ve been casually mentioning all year! We’ve had a lovely time here in Shropshire although your orders are now calling and so we’re back to work.

The end of the year is a time of looking back, especially on such a successful year for us. We’ve had immense fun at the shows that we do, we’re always interested to learn about how you use your carders and we’re grateful to you for your ideas and encouragement. We are a small family-led company so having such loyal and thoughtful customers is a great pleasure to all of us. Thank you and happy carding!

Wishing you all the best for 2016

Christmas Greetings from All of Us to All of You

xmas

We’d like to think of ourselves as The Windmill Theatre of the Wool World, but sadly even Paul needs a break …. We’ve shut the workshop for a few days to enjoy a well-deserved rest and we’ll be up and running fully again on January 4th.

We’re looking forward to an exciting New Year, there are new developments in the workshop to tell you about, and plans to go to new places and new shows, but, for now, we’re settling back with a mince pie and a skew-whiff hat and wishing you health, wealth and happiness.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Classic Carder!

Off to Foreign Parts… Classic Carder Goes to Holland

Classic Carder are going on a working visit to Winschoten for the fabulous Midwinterwol organized by our Dutch partners Lowland Legacy. We’re taking carders and equipment and will be launching our brand new wool picker to demonstrate and sell. This year, we’re joined by Jill Shepherd (aka Wrigglefingers) who will be teaching carding courses galore for Lowlands Legacy over the two days. It’s only a short hop across the water and we’re really looking forward to meeting old and new friends in what promises to be one of the wool festivals of the year.

Christmas Orders

Classic Carder Gift

We’re pleased to be exhibiting our carders in Holland with our Dutch partners at Lowlands Legacy during Midwinterwol this year. It will, however, make production times for your Christmas present critical. The last day for despatch will be December 21st, which means that ordering early is essential this year. If you are in the unfortunate position of needing to make an emergency order, please contact Paul and Mandy on 01746 714130 to see if your order can be fulfilled.

A bicycle powered Classic Carder!

We’re always fascinated to hear about projects and ventures that use our Classic Carder, so it was with great interest we learned about a new exhibition in the Basque Region. Artist Laurita Siles and her collaborator, Joseba Edesa, who is part of a Basque shepherding family, have worked together to produce two works to celebrate the fine black-face sheep, the endangered Carranzana, and the txapelas-making industry. The txapelas is the characteristic black beret of the area, made by wet-felting technique.

Laurita and Joseba converted a drumcarder and spinning wheel to be powered by bicycle, another familiar sight in the Basque Region. The exhibition was at The Encartada Industrial Museum, a former knitting yarn factory founded in 1892. The factory has been kept open to provide an insight into industrial processes from the past. We were delighted to support Laurita with information and pleased to see such an innovative project come to a successful conclusion.
